Automating Your Steel Fabricating Operation

Imagine if you could reduce your steel fabrication costs
while you double or triple your shop productivity!

Our controllers can turn the labour-intensive process of
punching and cutting steel into an automatic process.

Punching Metal Bar Stock Using a Shuttle Feed or Positioner

Place the length of angle iron (or flat bar) on the conveyor (roller table).

Move the bar stock to the "Start" position and activate the Clamp.

Select the appropriate program on the operator console for the type of parts desired.

Press the "Start" key to initiate the program.

The Shuttle Feed (or Positioner) will feed the metal bar forward by the correct distance required to align the first hole properly with the punch "head".

The Shuttle Feed (or Positioner) will then activate the ironworker (or single-end punch) and punch the first hole, then continue to feed forward and punch the metal bar until all the holes have been punched.

When finished, the metal bar can be moved to a saw or shear for cutting.

To punch a set of holes on the opposite flange of the angle iron, rotate the angle iron 180° and place it back on the conveyor for a second pass.  A "mirror" program may be used to match the first set of holes. 

Sawing or Shearing Metal Bar Stock Automatically Using a Shuttle Feed or Positioner

The sawing (or shearing) operation can also be automated in the same way as the punching operation.

Place the length of bar stock on the conveyor and bring it to the "Start" position and activate the Clamp.

Then select and activate a cutting program.

The Shuttle Feed (or Positioner) will move the metal bar forward the correct distance programmed and activate the saw (or shear) to accurately cut the part.

The program will continue to cycle until all the programmed parts have been cut.

IRONWORKER CAPACITY
Ironworkers typically are rated by tonnage at the punch station.
A 40 ton ironworker should punch a 1 inch hole in 1/2 inch thick material.
A 60 ton machine should punch a 1 inch hole in 3/4 inch material.
And an 80 ton machine should punch a 1 inch hole in 1 inch material.
